Welcome to the Community Nursery School of Wilton!

Our little red schoolhouse in the middle of Wilton center has been providing families with an exceptional preschool experience since 1938.  Founded by a group of parents, we have since strived to provide a welcoming atmosphere rooted in a play-based philosophy.  Starting nursery school, especially for the first time, is a big step in your child's life and our entire staff is committed to making this transition as smooth as possible.

The preschool classroom is a unique environment in that everything is selected and arranged around the needs of very young children.  The activities we do, the materials we use, the way we organize the environment, plan the schedule, and talk to your children are specifically designed to meet the goals of a good early childhood program and give your child a successful start to school.  We want them to know that school is a wonderful place to be!

Our main goal is to help your children discover a love for learning.  We offer an environment that encourages exploration and creativity, and where they feel the excitement of discovery as they try new skills and ideas.  We want them to leave us being enthusiastic, and curious learners.

We accomplish this goal by focusing on our four main areas of development: social, physical, emotional, and cognitive.  Socially, they will learn to feel comfortable in school, discover the art of friendship building, and learn to become part of a group. Physically, they will build their large and small motor skills and become more aware of their bodies.  Emotionally, we want them to feel comfortable asking questions, solving problems, and learning to think for themselves.  Our main job will be to provide the necessary foundation for formal learning.
